US Lifts Visa Restrictions on Ghana, Restores 5-Year Multiple Entry Visas

The United States has reversed its visa limitations on Ghana, allowing citizens to receive five-year multiple entry visas and expanded consular privileges. Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the development after a bilateral meeting with US Under Secretary of State, Allison Hooker on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

“I am really pleased that months of high-level diplomatic negotiations has led to a successful outcome,” Minister Ablakwa said.
He added that the Government of Ghana welcomes this decision as an affirmation of the strong and enduring partnership between Ghana and the United States.

The US had imposed visa restrictions on Ghana in July, limiting citizens to a maximum three-month single entry visa and other limitations. The restrictions were imposed due to concerns over visa overstays, particularly among students.

The lifting of these restrictions is expected to strengthen ties between the two countries and facilitate travel for Ghanaians visiting the US for business, education, or tourism.
