TGMA27: Black Sherif wins Artiste of the Year again

Black Sherif wins big at the 27th Edition of Telecel Music Awards.

Black Sherif has secured the Artiste of the Year award at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards for the second time, following a year marked by significant achievements in Ghanaian music. The artist, whose real name is Mohammed Ismail Sherif and who hails from Konongo, emerged victorious on Saturday night at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, competing against notable artists such as Medikal, Wendy Shay, Diana Hamilton, Stonebwoy, and Sarkodie.

This consecutive win marks Black Sherif’s second Artiste of the Year accolade, having first received the award in 2023 during the 24th edition of the scheme. Industry insiders noted that his latest victory was expected, given his dominant presence on international streaming platforms throughout the year.

His 2025 album, “Iron Boy”, played a central role in his success, achieving remarkable success both locally and internationally. On Spotify, Black Sherif has approximately 2.6 million monthly listeners, and “Iron Boy” debuted at number 6 on the UK Top Debut Albums chart. He was also Ghana’s most-streamed artist for the third consecutive year, with nine of the platform’s top 10 songs belonging to him.

His achievements extended to Apple Music, where he held all top 12 positions on the platform, with “Iron Boy” remaining at Number One for 21 weeks. The song “Sacrifice” was recognized as the top song of the year. Additionally, the album reached Number 10 on the Billboard World Albums chart, highlighting his expanding global reach.

Black Sherif also surpassed 100 million streams on Boomplay and has accumulated over 1.11 billion plays on Audiomack, with 3.01 million listeners and 5.83 million followers on the platform.

Beyond the Artiste of the Year award, he also won three other major awards: Best Hiphop Song of the Year, Best Afro Pop Song of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year.

Organised by Charterhouse Productions, the Telecel Ghana Music Awards remains Ghana’s most prestigious music awards event, celebrating excellence across genres while considering streaming figures, airplay, performances, and overall influence in the music industry.
