
The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has called on the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to adopt innovative approaches to managing migration. He announced plans to automate the residence permit process, aiming for foreigners to obtain permits within 24 hours.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the 19th cadet intake at the Immigration Academy and Training School in Assin Foso on Wednesday, Mr. Muntaka emphasized the importance of leveraging modern technology to enhance operational efficiency. He highlighted GIS’s crucial role in national security and economic development, noting that the Service is the first line of defense in monitoring all entries and exits from the country, including the issuance of visas to non-Ghanaians.
The Minister disclosed that GIS has mapped out a clear strategic direction aligned with the 24-Hour Economy initiative to achieve its aspirations. He commended the graduating cadets on their successful completion of training, acknowledging their tireless efforts and dedication. He urged them to uphold the virtues and high standards of discipline instilled in them and to demonstrate integrity when performing their duties.
